I am a DJ in Grand Junction, Colorado. I DJ in Rifle,
Glenwood Springs, Parachute and other cities in Western Colorado. I am
primarily a Wedding DJ. I also DJ in Moab, Monticello, and Blanding, Utah. I
have been entertaining crowds for many years and I have heard that some DJs
will ask people to let them have free reign when it comes to choosing songs. Some
DJs feel that when it comes to the open dancing portion of the night, usually
at a wedding, the bride and groom should let the DJ choose the music to keep the
people on the dance floor. It is true that a DJ must be very good at keeping
people dancing. After all, that is why you paid for a DJ versus doing it
yourself with a small speaker system and an iPod, iPhone, or iPad. It is true
that a good DJ will know how to read the crowd, mix the music right, and keep
everyone dancing and having a great time. The best part of being a DJ is making
people happy. I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces when I play a song that
brings back fond memories. If your DJ is good, he will know how to keep the
music flowing to produce a full dance floor.

The request issue has come up more than once in all of the
years I have been a DJ in Grand Junction. I prefer that the people hiring me
provide me with as many requests as they want. I feel that it is your party and
I am here to make you and your guests happy by having an amazing time. I will
always discuss with my clients a few key items:

1. What is the expected age ranges of the guests?

2. What genres do you enjoy?

3. What songs would you really want played?

4. Are there any genres or artists you would prefer I did
not play?

I inform my clients that I will keep everyone having a good
time and they do not need to worry about providing me with any guidance. I will
feel the crowd out and play what the people want to hear. However, any
pre-event information they can provide me will just help me when I am preparing
for the event. Yes, if you provide me with a 150 to 300 song playlists, I will
be upfront that I will do everything I can to play these songs. However, a lot
will depend on the feel of the crowd. During my experience being a DJ in Grand
Junction, Rifle, and Moab, most of my clients just say that I am the
professional and they trust me to keep the party going.

If you are looking to hire a DJ for your next event, my
advice is to provide as much music guidance as you wish. It is your special day
and the DJ is there to make it special for you and your guests, not to show off
his DJ skills.
